Dogs in need of homes

  01 September 2010

Back To Main Page

If you see a dog on this page that you would like to adopt, please consider the following first:

Does everyone in the family want the dog?  Everyone that lives in the house with the dog should be involved with the dog's wellbeing.

Please ensure that nobody in the family is allergic to dogs.

Have I got the time to give to a dog?  Dogs need exercise, attention, training and feeding.

Can I afford a dog?  Dogs require annual vaccinations to protect them from disease, regular worming and flea treatment, daily feeding and may require veterinary attention at some stage of their life.  Many dogs also require regular visits to a dog groomer.

Can someone look after my dog should I need them to.  Booking boarding kennels often needs to be arranged long before your holiday.

Does the dog I want fit into my life style?  For example if you were hoping to take on a puppy, but are only prepared to go for one short walk a day, this would not be suitable.  Please consider the dog’s needs before making that decision.

Dog Fosterers Needed

We are currently looking for volunteer dog fosterers in the following areas:-

Erith, Abbey Wood, Welling, Bexleyheath, Swanley & Belvedere.

If you would like to foster a dog until it finds a permanent home, it is essential that you drive, are able to exercise the dog and have the patience it sometimes requires to care for them.

We do not place foster dogs in homes with children under 10 years of age.

Brutus

Brutus is a 4 and a half year old ex racing greyhound, he is a gorgeous fawn dog with a very loving nature, he is inoculated and micro chipped and would make a lovely pet, for more details please ring.

A greyhound is the original low maintenance companion animal.  Despite their reputation as athletes they do not require large amounts of exercise, two 20 minute walks a day is sufficient, they will then be happy to relax on a comfortable bed.  They are short haired and require little grooming.  They are extremely clean animals and although living exclusively in a kennel they will quickly adapt to the comforts of a home.

The life expectancy of a former racer is 12 to 15 years. They are friendly by nature and can socialise well with other breeds of dog, they can and do live with cats, even those who show initial desire to chase can be de-schooled relatively quickly with firm, constant discouragement.

Overall a greyhound is loyal ,friendly, affectionate, gentle, clean, good natured and generally very lazy!!!

Spud

Spud is a black and white greyhound who has just retired from racing and is looking for a big sofa to sleep on. He is the original gentle giant, a large dog with a lovely nature.  He is looking for someone to give him lots of cuddles and attention, if you think you could be that person please call. He is 4 years old, inoculated and micro chipped.

Chance

Chance is a 12 year old black Labrador/Border Collie cross male who is in need of a new home due to his owner becoming too ill to look after him and give him the loving care and attention that he needs.

Although he’s nearly 12, Chance looks and feels very young with a good shine to his coat and always alert. He is excellent in the house, clean and ok to be left for short periods. He’s fully housetrained and will signal to go out by going to the back door.

Chance is obedient when he’s not over excited, and is able to be controlled under certain commands i.e. stay, sit, come, and down. He loves to go out for walks and is ok when placed on the lead however; he does not have any real road sense and should not be trusted if let off his lead when walking along the roadside as he might run off. That said when walked in open green lands/fields/forest/wooded areas away from the roads he is ok to be let off the lead and will recall after a few moments of checking out the local area!!

He is not a possessive dog but he doesn’t get on well with other male dogs that he doesn’t know but is known to be ok around females. He hasn’t been brought up with young children, so would suit a family with children over the age of 10 or older where he can get lots of love and affection. He is a good companion and will keep you company during the long winter nights indoors. He is not neutered but remains up to date with his vaccinations.

Gypsy

Gypsy is a 5 year old Female Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is fully inoculated and has been spayed.  Gypsy is a very loving, happy dog, loves loads of cuddles and lots of attention, she is very friendly and loves people. Gypsy will jump up at you with excitement; she can be stopped by bending down and stroking her. She loves to play and chase with balls and also plays football, she loves her belly tickled and she gives you a smile while you rub her stomach. She loves water and fetching a stick that’s thrown in a lake, although she’s not a great swimmer.

Gypsy is obedient when she’s not excited. She knows certain words i.e. stay, sit, come, where’s your ball, move over (when she takes up the whole sofa). rope, out, no, she’s like a little human.  Gypsy is ok off the lead in a field/forest away from a road/street. She has no road sense and can not be let off her lead in the street (she will run off). She pulls on her lead at first then slows down after a while; she can be stubborn going for walks sometimes, if you go another way to what she’s used to, she may strain to go where she wants to.

Gypsy is a very greedy dog, she will eat anything and everything (food that is) and is prone to put on weight, she is being feed on burns food (nearly a mug full with a tablespoon of wet). It’s a good make of food and it’s kept her weight steady, she’s used to being fed twice a day (6-7am and 5.30-7pm) she eats very fast.

She’s not to be trusted with other animals. She hasn’t been brought up will young children although she’s great with my nieces and nephews who are age 7 plus. She’s scared of brushes and hairdryers but doesn’t mind bathes; she does tend to roll sometimes in the garden, (fox, and cat faeces).

Marley

Marley is an 8 month old staff cross sharpei, golden brown, loving and cuddly. He needs an owner that can offer lots of walks and exercise as he has lots of energy like most puppies. He eats any food but is feed mainly on weebox tubes and dog mix.

He is very excitable so would preferably be better suited to a person without young children as he tends to jump, and being a big dog can knock over little children.

He has not been neutered but has been wormed.  He is fine with other dogs but can be a bit timid when first meeting them. He is a very attention seeking dog and loves fuss, he is not yet house trained.

Jake

This is Jake he is about 3 years old, he loves people and craves human attention, he is very obedient as well!   He doesn't get on with other male dogs but is ok with females, not sure what he is like with cats, I think he would be best if he was on his own and with children in there teens as he is a bit bouncy and likes to jump up and say hello.

He is a little bit possessive over toys and has a bit of a growl if another dog goes near him but is fine if a human was to take it. He would be very good company for anyone as he turns into your shadow after a while and follows you everywhere.

He is a very very loving, caring dog and a great pet to have.

Boris

Boris is a five year old, neutered, brindle male staffy.  He is lovely, happy, affectionate and a bit dippy, the only dog I have ever known who does actually chase his tale!

He would be very happy in a home with a garden and older children who he could play ball with, although they'd need more than one because he likes to hoard them once he's got them!

He would make an excellent family pet, loyal, affectionate and funny. He is not so great around other dogs but has lived with a cat previously.

Ruby

This is ruby, she is a 1year old English bull terrier cross, she loves people and other dogs, and likes to get close to cats, she has not shown any aggression to them.

She has been brought up around children, but because she can be a bit to playful, she is probably best homed with older children, she is up to date with her jabs and worming and had her first season, but not yet spayed.  She is a very loving and affectionate dog, and loves nothing more than to lay on you and have cuddles.

Please help find her a new and loving home, because she will make someone a wonderful pet.

Sam

Sam is a 5 yr old ex-racing greyhound. He is a lovely black boy who is very affectionate and loves cuddles.  Sam is inoculated and micro chipped.

He is lively and quite strong but once out on a walk he calms down. He would suit an experienced owner.  He has a lot of love to give so if you think you could give Sam a home, please ring.

Khan

He is very loving, soppy & not at all aware of his size, He is HUGE even for his age!  He is fully up to date on his jabs, but will need to be castrated as he has undescended testicles which apparently is common for Bullmastiffs, but you cannot breed from him due to this.  Khan has full Kennel Club paperwork and is also microchipped.

I have become ill and have found that I am unable to cope with Khan as he hates being on a lead! I have muscular problems and cannot cope with his pulling on the lead. He also moults alot and this has triggered off Asthma in my children & myself.

Khan truly is a lovely dog who lives with our other 2 dogs and 2 cats. He is very gentle and is fine around babies. children etc, but he will get boisterous when the kids do which can prove dangerous as he doesn't know that he is a giant...Poor Khan. He is used to having a garden and 2 large meals a day.
